Living Your Life Through Your Nervous System!

Everything that you think, say, and do, or see, feel, and taste are all directly available to you thanks to your central nervous system. Your central nervous system is comprised of your brain and spinal cord; it is also the master control system (the conductor) for everything happening in your body. The brain sends signals down the spinal cord by way of electrical impulses that travel down through the nerves that exit the spinal bones (vertebrae) that end up influencing and communicating to some particular tissue or organ system. In the same way the brain sends information, it also has to receive it back in order for the brain to know that the body is functioning properly.

The central nervous system is the ONLY system in the body that was purposely designed to be encased and protected by the hardest structures in the body: bone. The skull and vertebrae are among the most vital pieces of our anatomy due to their direct relationship to the protection, function and support of our brain and spinal cord. Does it make sense that if there happened to be a slight misalignment or subluxation present in the spine itself, there could be some form of interference to the spinal cord and nervous system? Not always can you feel a subluxation, matter of fact, they are often present for an extended period of time before a noticeable manifestation may come about- (e.g., pain, stiffness, bed wetting, restricted breathing). These subluxations are an assault to your health and quality of life!

In order for your nervous system to function as close to 100% as possible, your skull, and spinal column must be properly aligned and supported through all ranges of motion and movement. Seeing a chiropractor regularly can help maintain the function and support of your spine and can be a preventative measure we should all take to ensure our health and well being!

Nobel Prize recipient Dr. Roger Sperry says that the spine is the motor that drives the brain. According to his research “90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine.” Only 10% of our brain’s energy goes into thinking, metabolism, immunity, and healing. Sperry demonstrated that 90% of brain energy goes into processing and maintaining the body’s relationship with gravity. So if your spine is not moving properly, what problems could you have that you aren't even aware of yet?
